About INTERSOS
INTERSOS is an independent nonprofit humanitarian organization committed to assist the victims of natural disasters and armed conflicts. Its activities are based on the principles of solidarity justice human dignity equality of rights and opportunities and respect for diversity and coexistence paying special attention to the most vulnerable and unprotected people.
General context of the mission
INTERSOS has been working in Yemen since the beginning of 2008 focusing on protection WASH and livelihood for refugees asylum seekers and migrants from the horn of Africa and responding to the instability in country providing support to IDPs and local communities. INTERSOS is based in Sanarsquoa Aden Kharaz camp Laji governorate.
Recent conflict in Yemen has escalated significantly since 23 March when clashes between Houthi fighters and other parties intensified mainly in the southern regions. On March 26 airstrikes were initiated to hit Houthi targets spreading from Sanarsquoa and Sarsquoada to 15 out of 22 governorates.
According to the World Health Organization 643 people have been killed between 19 March and 5 April and 2226 people were injured. UNICEF estimates that at least 77 children have been killed and 44 maimed since 26 March. As of 3 April local partner reports estimated that at least 100000 people had been displaced by the recent conflict. These figures have not been independently verified. Since then significant additional displacement has been reported.
Civilian infrastructure has been damaged and disrupted as a result of the fighting five hospitals in Sanarsquoa Al Dhalersquoe and Aden have been hit 15 schools and educational institutions in Aden AlDhalersquoe and Sanarsquoa the three main national airports Sanarsquoa Aden and Hudaydah at least two bridges two factories and four mosques in Al Dhalersquoe. In addition civiliansrsquo private homes are being directly affected by airstrikes and armed clashes.
The current escalation is unfolding in a situation characterized by longterm vulnerability and food insecurity throughout the country now aggravating existing vulnerabilities and putting larger parts of the population at risk. National capacity to respond is extremely limited.
Relief efforts on behalf of the international community are ongoing strained by a lack of access into and within the country due to insecurity and shortages of fuel.
In consideration of the current humanitarian crisis in the country INTERSOS considers as a priority to expand its intervention in order to include new vulnerable categories mainly those affected by the instability in different sectors from health to WASH nutrition and so on.
Primary Responsibilities of this position
To support INTERSOS ndash Yemen health project to provide life saving primary health services and emergency assistance to IDPs and conflict affected communities in Sana39a living in the catchment area of 24 health centers through the provision of nbspa network of 4 mobile clinics primary health units. Through this activities health supervisor will help to support community health services including health mobilization and referral services including provision of first aid and activation of emergency referral mechanisms ambulance services is provided by a network of 48 community health workers.
Specific Duties
bullnbspnbsp nbspProvide technical support for the implementation of the mobile clinic and mobilization activitiesnbsp
bullnbspnbsp nbspProvide training needs to mobile clinics staff and community health workers planning and implementation of relevant trainings especially in clinical management of childhood diseases maternal health First Aid and TRIAGE emergency care.
bullnbspnbsp nbspOrganize initial and onjob training for staff on emergency intervention and First Aid protocols
bullnbspnbsp nbspOrganize a smooth project supplies ordering stocking and distribution and monitoring of consumption and weekly and monthly reporting on consumption
bullnbspnbsp nbspPlanning movement of mobile clinics cars and following with mobile clinic staffs to reach services in good and professional mannernbsp
bullnbspnbsp nbspSupervise collection and compilation of project data in geographic area of responsibility and ensure meticulous and timely reporting
bullnbspnbsp nbspCompile the data collected from the field to be submitted to the Emergency Coordinator
bullnbspnbsp nbspSubmit weeklymonthly statistics and narrative report to the Emergency Coordinator Support assessmentssurveys monitoring and evaluation of the project
bullnbspnbsp nbspMaintain good and positive contacts with MOH local authorities and community leaders to ensure their involvement in project activities
bullnbspnbsp nbspAny additional duties as requested by the supervisor.
Technical Support
bullnbspnbsp nbspAssist the logistician in procurement of drugmedical supplymedical equipment and ambulance materials by providing specification for requested items
bullnbspnbsp nbspProvide regular supervision of supported mobile clinics and community health workers including data collectionrecords of beneficiaries and project nbspactivities as well as timely implementation and reaching targets according to project objectives
bullnbspnbsp nbspProvide regular updates and reports to Emergency Coordinator and others as required
bullnbspnbsp nbspProvide data and success stories to enrich reports for both internal and external use
bullnbspnbsp nbspOrganize and conduct nbspjoint multifunctional team monitoring visits
bullnbspnbsp nbspMonitor project nbspimplementation and ensure accurate timely data collection
bullnbspnbsp nbspEnsure linkages and integration of community mobilization activities and mobile clinic services
bullnbspnbsp nbspMaintain project files
Qualifications amp Skills
bullnbspnbsp nbspBachelorrsquos degree in health sciences or Health administration is required.
bullnbspnbsp nbsp2 years of relevant work experience at least
bullnbspnbsp nbspWork experience in Health as emergency nbspresponse projects is preferable.
bullnbspnbsp nbspPrevious experience working for an international NGO.
bullnbspnbsp nbspStrong organizational and communication skills with the ability to effectively present information and respond appropriately to questions from senior managers in the field.
bullnbspnbsp nbspAbility and willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
bullnbspnbsp nbspStrong English and Arabic skills written and spoken. Ability to write reports in English is required.
